Treasure Basket : For a Novice (& a 6 month old)

With my eldest I may have heard of this term - but nothing more. With my second I decided to give it a go. I don't know why - who knows.

A little bit of google ( and twitter and texting friends) action I wanted to put a plan into motion. I had seen on google ready made kits to create treasure baskets including various things like brushes, sponges, wool, ribbon etc. After some gentle persuasion and encouragement I went on a scavenger hunt around the house for some bits and pieces I could pull together a treasure basket for little one.

From my (admittedly quick) research online (without spending £5 something on a book) was that a treasure basket is based on a idea to fill an basket with everyday objects and not toys - granted I was swayed a little on this and added in some toys I found on my hunt! I wanted to pull some stuff together with out spending out lots of money on things.

Here's some of things I added to our "box of discovery"

  • Wool
  • Egg box
  • Plastic egg (from Easter)
  • A reflective stay warm blanket piece
  • Plastic cookie cutters
  • Ribbon scraps
  • Brushes
  • Wooden blocks
  • Plastic pots
  • Wooden spoon
  • Plastic scoop
  • Fabric scraps
  • Toy car
  • Small cuddly toys of different textures
  • Texture cards
  • Plastic rings
Little one sure has enjoyed emptying everything - and I am sure as he get bigger he will enjoy it still. Now just to keep my eyes peeled for things to add to the mix - and purchase a better basket that does not cost the earth!! Any suggestions let me know
