Kitchen Adventures : Maple Cinnamon Granola

I'm a big fan of cereal. I love a big bowl with ice cold milk. Actually one of my favourite things to eat - any time of day.

Hubby on the other hand has not always been such a fan. He would much prefer having some toast or crisps. However in the past year he has been changing his lifestyle - eating better and healthier, cutting down the amount of bread he would have a day and cycling or working out at the gym. In just under a year he has lost 3 stone in weight and is reaping the benefits of this change in how he lives.

Since these changes, he has also discovered a love of cereal. For a long time he stuck to the cornflakes, crunchy nut style. As this was familiar to him. Over the past weeks he has ventured out his eating tastes and welcomed granola into his life. Which then took the steps to me getting in the kitchen and making our own.

I got the ingredients while doing our MorrisionsMum shop last week - and this really was a very basic recipe, I'm sure some new interpretations will appear soon.

2 cups of oats.
About 3/4 of a bottle of maple syrup
Splash of oil
Dash of Vanilla
Bag of mixed chopped nuts.
Sprinkle of cinnamon.

Pour all the ingredients into a bowl and stir until combined. Preheat oven to 170c. Spread mixture on a baking tray. Place in oven and bake for 30 mins in total - after each 10 mins remove from oven and stir. Once 30 mins is up leave to cool. The granola will get more crunchy as it cools.

I've left the mixture plan and just add raisins or fresh fruit to the bowl when serving. It really is rather yummy, I might just have a bowl - for lunch.

  1. I make granola too, I use a different recipe and like to add pecans and dried cranberries. I have mine for brekkie with plain yoghurt, mixed seeds, fresh fruit and maple syrup x
