{Organisation Attempt}

Being a working mum (with lots of hobbies) at times is a real balancing act. I always have a long list of things I would like to do (pinterest has a lot to blame for this) I have lots of hobbies I pick and put down and return to (like knitting, crochet and cross stitching - these are all things I enjoy for periods of time and then I stop them for a while) The one craft I keep up with regularly. And projectlife has a lot to do with that. I have thoroughly enjoyed it, and enjoyed working on small but all encompassing layouts a week at a time. However I have been missing 12x12 layouts. I took Shimelle Cover to Cover to class earlier this year, which meant I went back through all my albums and highlighting particular 'stories' which were missing from my albums. I had this lovely list of layouts - but this list meant every time I wanted to work on a layout I would then have to go look for photos, by the time I had done that the small period of time I had put aside to scrapbook a layout had diminished and something else (i.e small child needing my attention, dinner to be cooked or too tired to keep my eyes open) had interrupted this process.. Therefore I had a think about how I could speed up this process.

Off I went to WHSmiths -picked up a lever arch file, some plastic pockets, a square notebook, and some dividers. I labelled the dividers in the themes for my albums and went through my list of stories. I pulled out my photos from that year / event and popped them into plastic pockets.
It meant that at the weekend when I went to a crop, I was able to take with me just this folder of layouts I wanted to make. I was able to flick through, pick something which inspired me and create. (I need to get some more plastic wallets!)

Having it divided like this means I can also store notes, lists and ideas for each album in the divider until I sort out the photos.

So far so good on my new approach. I feel organised and know that if I want to spend an hour whipping up a new page I can and spend time doing the fun things like creating the page.

Do you have any tips on getting your 'extra-ciricular' activities organised?

Happy Friday!

  1. This is such an excellent idea! I sort of tried to list my "missing pages" but I got so disheartened by the sheer number of them! This sounds do-able tho; I could just do a bit at a time, like Anna's album or Isaac's pregnancy pages. Then when I want to sit down & scrap, I'd have lots of ideas to choose from instead of going completely blank!

  2. This is a really good idea. Thanks for sharing it.

  3. Such a great idea - I may just have to "borrow" the idea if I may?! x
